2nd Alumni Charity Challenge

Former Marquette Golden Eagle, Green Bay Phoenix, Wisconsin Badger, and Milwaukee Panther basketball stars reunite to raise money for charity and to prove who is still number one on the court. On Friday, June 30th, at 4 pm join us at the Gruber Law Offices Sportszone at Summerfest, where alumni from each university will compete in the 2s FREES 3s™ shooting challenge, all to support four great charitable organizations, Garding Against Cancer, Autism Society of SE Wisconsin, Nicole Ellis Foundation, and the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Green Bay.

Fans, we need your support! Participate in this event by donating a minimum of $10 in the name of your favorite team or charity now through June 29, 2023. For your donation, you will receive one (1) free Summerfest ticket valid for Friday, June 30th. Give your favorite team an advantage in the competition, and support four great causes, who together will receive 100% of the funds raised.

This is our 16th year of supporting Marquette students…The Mission of the Nicole Ellis Foundation is to keep Nicole’s spirit and passion alive in our memories by doing what she loved to do best…helping others. The Foundation does this through contributions to The MU Ethnic Alumni Association. We have selected some not-for-profit organizations such as Variety, the Children’s Charity of Wisconsin, The Community Liver Alliance (CLA), The March of Dimes, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the Salvation Army Toys-for-Tots.

Since December 2016, Garding Against Cancer, an initiative spearheaded by Wisconsin Men’s Basketball Head Coach, Greg Gard, and his wife Michelle, has raised more than $7.5 million to make an impact on cancer research and care in the state of Wisconsin. At the UW Carbone Cancer Center, Wisconsin’s only comprehensive cancer center, funding supports groundbreaking clinical trials, research studies, and new ways to prevent, diagnose, detect, and treat cancer. In partnering with the Wisconsin Cancer Collaborative, Garding Against Cancer supports their work to reduce cancer disparities across the state. Garding Against Cancer also supports direct patient prevention and care, hosting events in, and supporting those local communities, around Wisconsin.

The Event
Each team will participate on the 2s FREES 3s™  course in a tournament style competition. The team score will be based on the total number of shots made by all 3 participants in each round. The team to advance to the second round and win, will be crowned the champion of the 2nd Annual Alumni Charity Challenge. In advance of the competition, your donations will give your favorite team an advantage. The team with the highest number of donations will receive 2 bonus points, and the team with the most money raised will receive 2 bonus points. The charitable partner associated with this year’s Alumni Charity Challenge champion will receive 40% of the funds. The charitable partners of the remaining teams will each receive 20% of the total funds raised. Everybody wins! Plus, Melanie Ricks, Milwaukee Bucks in-game host and radio host on 101.7 The Truth, will emcee the event.

Event Rules
The four teams will be placed in a 4-team bracket and seeded based on the number of donations received. The team with the highest number of donations will be the number 1 seed, and so on. The number 1 seed will face the number 4 seed in round 1, followed by the number 2 seed against the number 3 seed. During each match up, teams will shoot the 2s FREES 3s™  course simultaneously on each end of the court. Each player on the team will take a turn shooting the course with one other teammate serving as a rebounder. Each player will be scored based on shots made during the two allowable minutes. Each participant must make a shot at each spot before they move to the next, starting at spot 1 and moving to spot 2 and so on up to spot 21, until they finish the course or time runs out, whichever happens first. The combined score of each player from each team will determine the team score. The teams with the highest team score will win their respective match up and advance to Round 2. The team who wins the Round 2 matchup up will be crowned the champion of the 2nd Annual Alumni Charity Challenge.

Tiebreaker – In the event there is a tie after any round, the winner will be the team who had the highest dollar amount donated on their behalf.
