Mayor Tom Barrett Signs Summerfest Lease Extension
On Wednesday, January 6, 2010, Mayor Tom Barrett signed the lease amendment which includes a 10-year lease extension for the use of Henry Maier Festival Park.
The prior existing lease between the City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. was effective as of January 1, 2001 with a termination date of December 31, 2020. This ten year lease extension cements the future operations of Summerfest on the lakefront and provides the opportunity for Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. to embark on a planned capital improvement initiative to redesign and redevelop approximately twenty-two acres on the southern portion of the grounds. It also ensures that Summerfest, ethnic and cultural festivals, and other events have use of Henry Maier Festival Park until at least 2030.
